Special Needs - Zoey's Story

Zoey can see!May 2003
Look at those beautiful brown eyes! On April 17th, Zoey had cataract surgery and was fitted with artificial lenses, and her sight has been restored! We would like to thank everyone who helped Zoey achieve this incredible goal, and we would like to thank the wonderful doctors, Dr. Kathryn Good and Dr. Lana Linton, and their wonderful staff at the Animal Eye Center in Rocklin. Zoey is once again enjoying collecting rocks and tennis balls, and will soon be able to resume her swimming activities. And to top it off....Zoey has been adopted into a wonderful home. She has her very own Mom and Dad, a 5 year-old yellow lab sister named Emma, and a cat named Bulldog!

January 2003Zoey before surgery
Zoey is a bright, adorable, happy, affectionate 8-year old golden girl who was very much loved by her former family, but they were moving and facing some financial challenges, and could no longer care for Zoey. Because Zoey is diabetic and blind, they thought their only option was to have her put down. They contacted their vet, and rather than euthanizing her, the kind-hearted vet staff asked for permission to find a better solution for Zoey, and called Homeward Bound. We are all thrilled that this beautiful girl is getting a second chance.

Zoey faces some serious health challenges. In November, she was diagnosed with diabetes. She receives two insulin injections daily. She also has cataracts, which have now rendered her completely blind. But there is hope! We have had Zoey examined by an ophthalmologist and the doctor feels that she is a great candidate for surgery. Her surgery is scheduled for April 3rd and will cost approximately $2,000, but we are hopeful that it will allow this wonderful dog to see again! If you would like to help us help Zoey and other special needs goldens, your donation of any size would be gratefully appreciated! Stay tuned for Zoey updates!
