Roscoe
The inspiration and namesake of
The Roscoe Fund. The Roscoe Fund provides extraordinary
medical care for special needs dogs.

Homeward Bound rescues goldens of all ages
and medical conditions. We never turn a golden away because of the
severity of their medical situation. Naturally, this results in
extraordinary medical expenses. We've had jaws and legs reconstructed,
cancerous legs amputated, cancerous ears amputated, and numerous
life-saving tumor removals. By making a donation of any amount, you can
help us save more lives and improve the quality of life for a deserving
golden with a special need. Your donation will go far toward saving an
innocent life.
Meet a couple of Homeward Bound Special
Need rescues. If you would like to help, donations
can be sent to Homeward Bound in their names. Thank You!

Harley
Hipster Sidelined For The Season, May 2005
Thanks to the generosity of many, Harley was
able to have the hip surgery that significantly improved the quality of
his life. As a result, Harley and his reporter buddy Bentley have created
the Harley Hipster Hip Foundation to help other Homeward Bound dogs needing
hip surgeries. If you would like to contribute to this effort, click on the
Harley Hipster Hip Foundation button for details.
Sunny
Slider Looking For A Home Run, Oct 2005
Sunny came to Homeward Bound as an eleven month old owner surrender. His family didn’t have the resources to provide for his needs or, thankfully, the heart to end his young life. His battle is uphill one; neither hip joints nor elbow joints functioned properly. His joints tend to be bone-to-bone causing him considerable pain and lack of mobility. As resources become available, Sunny has surgeries--to date he has had the femoral head removed from his left hip, he has had dual elbow surgery that included the removal of a lot of bone fragments. At present time he is on limited activity with all outdoor activities on a leash. Sunny is taking all of this in stride and so happy to have this second chance. His next surgery will be the big one...a right side total hip replacement. Sunny is grateful to Harley Hipster for pioneering the way, not only in surgery but also fund raising. These surgeries would never be possible without the financial help of Golden Retriever families and supporters.

Rachel's
Story, June 2003
Although they are graphic in nature, we are not displaying photos of this poor little orphan to sensationalize her situation. Our purpose is simply to demonstrate the need for rescue organizations such as Homeward Bound and to illustrate the type of veterinary expenses we incur on a routine basis, often as a result of gross neglect by former owners.

Merlin's
Story, December 2003
Despite all the well-wishes and support Merlin received, Merlin lost his
brave fight with cancer on January 29, 2004. He was just three years old and
was looking forward to spending the rest of his life with this mom and
Homeward Bound siblings. In his short life he had many adventures but none
compared to the thrill of finding his forever home and knowing what it was
like to be a beloved family dog. He truly appreciated his second chance at
life and lived it to the fullest. Though not rich in worldly possessions,
Merlin's wealth was in the friends he made and the people who loved him..

Scooter's Story, January
2003 - A
Very Special Humanitarian Rescue
Scooter was found abandoned on a seldom-traveled country road. It was initially believed that she had been struck by an automobile, for she could not walk. However, it was later discovered that she had not been hit by a car. Sadly, Scooter was born without kneecaps, a birth defect that caused her legs to jut straight out from her torso, with no bend whatsoever. When found, she was approximately 10-12 weeks old.

The
Alice Chronicles, June 2004
Alice was found wandering the streets in a very neglected state. Her story is not unique; instead it is rather commonplace.
She was in a state of despair, she was dirty right down to her skin, her hair was dull and matted, she was covered in parasites, she had no muscle tone and her rear legs trembled when she walked. She was only wearing a choke collar that had rubbed into her neck. It appears she had been chained up in a very dirty place. When she was diagnosed with heartworms, no one was surprised.
Thankfully, with everyone's support, Alice lived happily ever after!
