Success Story

Casey

Casey's First Day....
(formerly known as George)

George and I have bonded!!! Let me tell you about his first night and day.

We both got home, I showed him all around the yard, and he claimed it as his. The night went well. He smelled everything and checked out everything else. We took a walk and I decided he needed a bit of leash training. I didn't want to get right into it, however, so we just kinda played awhile.

When it was time for bed he didn't exactly know what or where to go so I just let him be. I could hear him walking around and when things got quiet I checked on him. He was sleeping in the middle of the living room with his toys all around him.

He had enough sleep by 6 AM and proceeded to lick my face -- I no longer need an alarm clock. Speaking of licking faces, I kinda broke him of that jumping thing he does. It didn't take long and it was harder on me than it was on him. I just told him, in a strong voice, DOWN. Then I proceeded to ignore him. The first time was 5 minutes. Have you ever seen a Golden's face who wants to be loved and played with and you're making a point? Well, it worked after about 4-5 more times. He actually met the neighbors and didn't jump up at them.

We took a long walk and he decided he wanted to walk on the right side -- I didn't know until I read the chapter in my book that is the correct side. We went to the park here and played a little game of ball. He retrieves so very good and actually brings the ball back. My other Golden would usually drop it 10 feet from me. George brings it right back.

Back to the walk. We worked on the HEEL command and by the 2nd walk he was heeling like a pro. I then gave him a bath. He wasn't too sure about it until he figured out it feel good on a hot day. He stood there the whole time and let me soap him up and spray him off. Toweling off was play time again. So we toweled off for about half an hour. Then it was time to be brushed. He sat there so good and let me brush him completely. It was time to brush his belly and he just rolled over and enjoyed every minute -- eyes closed, regular breathing as if he was asleep. He probably was.

Then it was time for another walk to see if he remember how to heel. He did. Seems when we walk past the park he knows it time for playing ball. It was hot by that time, but he did for about 2-3 times. We then just sat under a tree in the cool grass and enjoyed the day. He love to be petted on his head.

He's sleeping now right here next to me. He is such a sweet dog. Did you know that people are much friendlier when you are walking a dog? I have taken many walks around here the last 2 years and hardly ever said hi to anyone. Today everyone said hi and commented on how beautiful George is.

As I told you when we talked, I was probably going to be calling George Casey. I started doing that too and he seems to enjoy the sound of it. He perks up when I call him Casey and usually comes trotting right over.

Thanks for a wonderful friend,

Don

Casey's second day in his new home....

Casey Casey and I had another great day today. Before it got to hot we went to Art on the Main in Walnut Creek. He was a perfect gentleman. He also made a few friends at one of the restaurants I normally frequent. He also got a little extra attention -- I guess all the large tips in the past are paying off now.

I've attached a picture of him. It's big, but it has to be big to match the subject. mmmm -- now which one will I send? OK, this one is from yesterday when he decided to talk a walk in the pond.
