Success Story

Brandi

Brandi

Dear Mike and Jody,

Brandi We adopted Brandi (formerly known as Tori) about a month ago when we visited Homeward Bound looking for a playmate for our 5-year-old lab mix, Lucky. Our first thought when we saw Brandi was how absolutely beautiful she was. Her coat was so shiny and red. We could not believe it when we heard the story of how she was rescued from a shelter down in Modesto emaciated and sick with heartworm disease.

We are still amazed at how well Brandi has adapted to our life style. She quickly picked up Lucky's routines of chasing squirrels in the backyard, going on long late afternoon walks, and cuddling at night. Brandi complements Lucky quite well. Lucky is the physical one - always on the go - while Brandi is the mellow one, always coming over to get a hug or a pat on the head (if one of us does not pat her right away, she'll actually put her head under one of our hands and push the hand until it is on top of her head!).

Lucky and BrandiAlthough Brandi is the mellow one, we discovered very quickly that she becomes quite a different dog when water is involved. Unlike Lucky, she is pretty uninterested in balls if they are on land. However, once a ball is thrown in the river or our pool, she is lightening quick to get it. She actually beats Lucky at retrieving balls out of water and no other dog has been able to do that before!

Needless to say Brandi has had quite a success story. Thank you so much to everyone at Homeward Bound for rescuing and caring for Brandi. In particular, thank you to Pat Banks for fostering Brandi and taking such good care of her until we came and adopted her.

Many thanks,
Mike and Kirstin Hill
