Success Story

Wheezy

Wheezy

Dear Homeward Bound,

My name is Louisa Mae Love Muffin, “Wheezy” for short, like the lady on that old T.V. show.  I am sending a big hello from Crockett where I have been living this past year.  A busy year at that and my “parents” have been remiss about sending you an update.  I came to live in Crockett as a “foster dog” and I guess I was only supposed to stay awhile, but I was a good girl and very loving and I can work my brown eyes, so I am here with my sister Trixie Belle whom is also adopted from Homeward Bound.  My mom says Trixie, like me, didn’t have a very good life before she came to live here, but that doesn’t mean she gets to act like “The Empress”, which she does.  She is very spoiled!

I came to Homeward Bound because I was dropped at a shelter and was to be put down.  The shelter did not want to do that so I ended up at HBGRR, although my vet swears there is not a drop of Golden Retriever in me, she thinks I am a yellow Lab and Husky or Pyrenees mix.  Lucky for me I fooled those HBGRR folks huh?

I had a few problems finding a home because you see I am what you call a “senior dog”, though you would not know it they think I may be 11 or 12!  I also have terrible allergies and when I arrived I didn’t look too good, my eyes were all gummy and stained, I chewed my paws and I had scratched most of the fur off my snout.

I look GREAT now!  I am on a Special Soy diet, eat Special treats and take allergy medicine each day, so everything has cleared up and I look really pretty again.  My folks don’t think the people I lived with before HBGRR were very nice to me.  They think I was hit and neglected for I had a lot of trouble when I first moved to Crockett.  I was scared a lot and I didn’t like anyone to pet me and I really hated it when men other than my daddy was around, but my mom and dad tell me everything is okay now and I am not so scared.  My nickname is “Big Job” because sometimes I like to bark a lot and try to boss everyone around, even Empress Trixie! “Big Job” was my Grandma’s nickname when she was a kid, you see she was the boss in a gang in Brooklyn called the Gremlins.  When I met her she said to me “Big Job, us old broads have to stick together” and kept sneaking me treats.  YUM!

I think I love my daddy best, he loves to play with me and taught me how to play with a tennis ball, I don’t think I ever got to do that before!  My mom says daddy never had a dog and now he is making up for lost time with “his girls”.  Empress Trixie also likes having me around, for even though she is spoiled we have a great time together and we love each other very much.  You would never know Trixie had a bad life before she came to Homeward Bound.  Today, she loves everybody (including dogs), wags her tail all the time and is a very happy girl, Mom says I had a lot to do with that because Trixie got used to me being around and gave her confidence.  Pretty good for an old broad right?

My folks were really worried about adopting an older girl like me, especially with the Empress already around, but it was been really good for all of us.  That said, our whole family highly recommends adopting “golden oldies” like me and for getting a second dog! Yay!  If it hadn’t been for Homeward Bound I am sure I would have never had the second chance at life and living the rest of my years in such a great home.  Thanks Homeward Bound!

Love,

“The Crockett Crew”
