Success Story

Maxi

Dear Homeward Bound,

First off, I'd like to say that Maxi has adapted to our family extremely well. Overall, she has been a very good girl. When we first brought her home, she went straight to the tile floor to cool off. She automatically knew where to do her business and came to us every time she needed us to open the door for her. During that first night, she came into my room a lot because she needed to go to the bathroom.

The next night, I was in a play and we had to leave Maxi at home for a few hours. When we arrived home, we called Maxi's name a few times and she came bounding down the stairs. She isn't allowed upstairs, but without us even telling her, she's never been upstairs since. It took us about 2 weeks to train her to use the dog door, and now she uses it with ease (don't worry; it's a Golden sized door).

A few weeks later, I was sick with a very bad bug and for two nights Maxi slept in my room, on her own. It seemed like she sensed I wasn't well. Later on, when I was better, my mom and I went on a vacation without Maxi (we couldn't take her... long story). Maxi must have been a little upset at that fact because the dog sitter reported that three out of four nights Maxi had had a little "accident" by the fireplace. But when we arrived home, she seemed extremely happy to see us and she hasn't had an accident since.

A while after we got her (about 5 weeks), she got an ear infection. Her toenails were very long (we took her in to get them cut but the groomer said that the former owners didn't clip her nails so her veins had grown into her nails and it would cause pain to her to cut them) and every time she scratched her ear, she produced a cut by her ear that just kept getting worse and worse. We got her medicine and now her cut and ear infection are gone.

We have had Maxi for 2 months now, and we love her lots. Thank you for letting us adopt Maxi.

Love,
Lauren, Shelley and Maxi
