LADY...Our Lovely "Golden Oldie"

We wanted to share how we became the very proud "parents" of Lady, a Golden Oldie from Homeward Bound.

Late last year, I was told about a 14-year old female Golden Retriever, who had been left at a local animal shelter, because her family could no longer care for her. The shelter felt that this Golden girl would not be able to be adopted, due to her advanced age and her only real hope was rescue! I immediately got in touch with Jody Jones and Lea Kachler-Leake at Homeward Bound, and arrangements were made for me to remove this precious girl from the shelter, so that she could begin her journey to Homeward Bound and to find her Forever Home.

While arrangements to transport this beautifully sweet girl to Homeward Bound were being finalized, I brought her to stay at our home for a few days, after removing her from the shelter. As each day passed, I could feel that something very special and magical was happening in the confines of our home...we had fallen in love with this true Golden Oldie "treasure"! Our other Golden Retrievers, Pomeranian, Cocker Spaniel and we, could see in Lady's eyes, that she too had fallen in love with us. We felt in our hearts that she needed to go no further than our home, and decided that she had found her Forever Home!

I can't begin to tell you how much our Golden Oldie has changed our lives....and a Golden Oldie can change your life too, if you will just give them that opportunity to share their lives with you. They ask so little of us and only want the chance to love you, and become a member of your family.  All I can tell you is that once you own a Golden Oldie, your life will change forever. Our Lady has taught us so many things, but most importantly she has taught us to take life much more slowly and not rush around all the time, and she continues to teach us on a daily basis about gentleness, patience, understanding and love. Having never had a Golden Oldie in our lives before, we just didn't know what we were missing until this "treasure" came into our lives. Lady greets us upon our arrival at home from work each day, with the same exuberance as our younger dogs...always with that special Golden Retriever "smile" on her face, a toy in her mouth and the constant wagging of her flag-like tail!

All I can say is that we have been truly blessed to have this lovely Golden Oldie come into our lives. It never ceases to amaze us how she silently weaves her magic around our hearts each and every day, and we will treasure every "Golden" day that God allows her to stay with us.
