Success Story

KC

KC            KC              KC

Hi --  It's been a while but I wanted to share our/KC's story with you.   Feel free to put it on your site.  A few photos are attached, which we should have submitted long ago but in any case, a few more Golden photos for the archives!  Why are they so darn photogenic!!???

It's been about 5 years now since we adopted our noisy boy, KC, and we just love him more and more each day.  When we first got him, 'Gus' was in pretty bad shape, although we can only imagine that he was even worse off when Homeward Bound got to him.  You could see through his dry, dull, sparse coat, to his skin.   The front of his neck and his front 'elbows' had no hair at all and were worn and crusty from lying on concrete, and probably hours of straining against a tie-out and collar.  He was about 20 lbs overweight, and he barked incessantly.  But something told us we couldn't leave that day without him.  His bright eyes and him leaning against my leg and looking through those LONG eyelashes when I petted him, were the tugs at our hearts that we couldn't ignore.

Don't get me wrong, he's been a challenging guy in some ways, adjusting to his new home here.  But his charm and energy and intelligence and sheer joy for everything (his favorite thing!!) outweigh any of those challenges and make it all worthwhile.

His life now consists of all kinds of fun:  he goes whitewater rafting (it's his favorite thing!) and has his own lifejacket, his neighborhood friends include 3 other goldens (Mollie and Kodie), two other doggies (Sargent and Sammie) and the most recent addition to the pack, another golden boy named Bentley.  He loves it when we are packing for a road trip (his favorite thing!) and sometimes waits INSIDE the car, on his blankets, surrounded by his toys, while we finish loading up the car.  KC is a ball doggy through and through and when we got our first 'Chuck-It' toy, we thought it 'might' be a good idea... well, he knew immediately what it was and went crazy until we started flinging the long-flying balls that the toy makes possible.  It's his favorite thing!  He loves to swim... yes, that's his favorite thing!  and hike, and ride in the car... it's all good for him.  And, frankly, if you can't laugh when you're around a goofy golden, you are missing one of life's true joys.

Although KC is the 'elder' dog in the 'hood, he has not slowed down one bit.  And he lost his excess weight soon after he moved in with us, re-grew a gorgeous shiny, thick coat, and has thoroughly won our hearts and everyone else's who meets him.  Oh, and our newest addition, Luna the cat, loves cuddling with him and chasing HIS tail.

KC will be 11 years old in March and we look forward to many, many more years of golden doggy love.

Thanks for all that you do.
