Success Story

GOLDIE

Goldie       Goldie Resting

The Journey of Goldie the Wonder Golden

We adopted Goldie (formerly Lola) in March of 2006.  Our family had thought long and hard about adding another pet to the family.  We had adopted Monty from HBGR in 2004; it was time for him to have a companion.

From the moment we met her, we were in love.  She adapted to our home very quickly, most importantly to the man of the house, Monty.  Goldie quickly became a regular at the dog park, and as the heat came, the pool in the backyard.  We discovered soon after bringing her poolside, that she was a swimmer.  Within a week, she was out-swimming me!  Within a couple of months, she was diving in the shallow end for rings and now swims under the bridge to gain access to the waterfall grotto.

Oh she’s fun.  She fetches, swims, howls when she’s left outside to dry after swimming, grunts, snores, barks when you ignore her, and can jump into bed with you at request.

Goldie has also attended a field trip for our daughter’s classroom.  Goldie was very popular with the kids, and, has a special bond with those with special needs.  We even think Goldie may visit classrooms in the future!

As much as life grew brighter with the addition of Goldie, times would change for her.  In June of 2006, Monty passed away unexpectedly.  She appears to understand he is gone, and not coming back.  We’ve kept her busy, making sure to give her extra attention; not that it’s hard.  Goldie is very demanding, she usually gets her way.  She carries her Old Navy toy or a Frisbee in her mouth at all times, and, when she hears the sound of her leash, OR, sees me grab for my running shoes she….for a lack of better words, FREAKS out!

She is our constant companion, when I have to leave her to go to work; there are days when I want to cry.  But, I know she will be waiting at the door for me when I come home.

We really want to thank everyone, not only for their support during Monty’s passing, but, for giving us a ray of hope in Goldie.  She really is part of our family, and we just love her so much!
