Success Story

EMMY

Emmy

Dear Homeward Bound,

We adopted Emmy in February 2003. This was our first time doing a rescue dog. We both wanted another Golden, however, Miss Emmy as we call her was something else. Initially I saw her but didn't think twice since she wasn't a Golden. I looked at other Goldens even other breeds but nothing did it for me. I decided to go back and look at Emmy again for the second time, something just told me to look at her again. Here she was just sitting there all self-righteous and very proud.

The thing that sold me was she put her paw to the crate door. Instantly, I knew this was my dog. Little did we know that, when we got home she would turn into the devil-child. With obedience training and patience she has turned out to be a very intelligent dog with many promises. Overall, she is beautiful and an intelligent dog and we love her no matter what. We've only owned her for almost 5 months and she has come a long way.

Emmy has been a definite challenge, her foster mom Cyrette Smith (I give many thanks for all her help with the transition). Emmy came to us without any training, obedience, etc. Emmy came apparently to Homeward Bound without much history. After being at the Sacramento Humane Society for a month and a half and then into foster for only a week. She was only 10 months and due to be euthanized before Homeward Bound went and rescued her.

I thank people and the entire volunteer staff of Homeward Bound for all their efforts to keep this rescue going. Without their care and compassion this organization couldn't be possible. You never know, your companion just may be a mixed breed - give them the chance. Give the time and love and it will be worth it no matter what their history is.

Like I said, Emmy has been a challenge however, there are a lot of dogs out there just as nice as goldens and would defintely make great companions and need a good home.

Thanks Jody, Mike and Lynn for letting me be a part of this great experience. I am so enjoying doing the home visits. If you need help in other areas, please let me know.
