Success Story

BEAU: This is my Story

Beau                      Beau and Friends

I am a retriever, golden by color and in heart. I am a 4 year old, male Labrador named Beau. (A.K.A. Zeus) Although I was born on April 1, 1999 I am no fool. I was surrendered to HBGRR due to a divorce situation and in my heart I knew I had a bright tomorrow to look forward to. I am handsome, to say the least, the envy of my breed. But, I have the misfortune of periodic seizures. Luckily for medicine, I can be easily cared for by a special family who manages my differences. A couple pills a day keeps the doctors away.

There I was, at the HBGRR ranch with a lot of other furry friends and caring people wondering, what next? With several people coming and going, checking me out and such, I knew that being on my best behavior and providing lots of full body wags would surely charm that right someone. One lady was smitten with me from the start, her name was Sandra. I guess I reminded her of her first love, who I later learned was named "Kessie.” I told my ranch friends, “I am going home with them today, I just know it.”

As dusk approached I was called to attention and walked to the back of a station wagon, I knew this was a good sign! With a “let’s go” I was very excited at the possibility of my new home. After a brief 2.5 hour ride, which I fared well, I arrived at what would become my new home. There it stood, a large acre of land to run on, a pool to swim in, a bed (actually a number of beds, human and animal alike) to sleep on, and siblings to play with! I was one very lucky pooch! I was so happy that my tail kept swishing from side to side. My dream came true.

My new family was large, 8 siblings to be exact. I now have an 18-month-old brother (yellow lab), 8-year-old sister (HBGRR golden), 3 cats, a rabbit and two guinea pigs! There is never a dull moment in this home. My brother and I have become best pals. We play tug of war; we chase each other, take long hikes, go to the park, and roam at off-leash areas and tromp at the beach. I have a great new life.

My home is safe and full of love, care and concern. I am nurtured all the time and fit right in. I am part of their family. I no longer harass the cats; we have worked out a mutual understanding. A few pat-pats on the nose cured me of that. My folks love, respect and pamper me. I eat high quality foods, get daily exercise, get all my medications, eat nutritional treats like carrots and have a variety of toys to play with. I certainly feel love, demonstrated by all the hugs, strokes and kisses I get. Thank You HBGRR for taking me into your care as my transitional home---although I am not the golden by breed I am a true loving retriever. Thanks to you I found a perfect home! And Thank You Bob, Sandra, Emma, Cooper, Oliver, Elliott, Bodie, Huckleberry and Finn and Clara--my big and wonderful new family!
