“Tears to Notes”

You came to us from a bad place,
Missing hair, a smile, oh, that face. 
A head bowed low,
A trust not yet learned,
A fear in your eyes
Small steps, a home yearned.
Then slowly you trusted,
Small steps became big, 
Bad memories faded, your spirit no longer fragile,
Like a twig.
The head that was bowed, raised it became,
Proud to be part of a family again.
We trained you to sit, to stay,
Even heel.
You taught us to love with
Compassion,
To Feel.
You never complained
When in pain, or
In fear,
You placed your head
In our lap as
We shed a tear.
Your loyalty and love
Will forever be ours,
In heaven, on Earth, 
As far as the stars.
To us you were more
Than a pet, or a dog.
You were, and
Always will be,
Our big gift 
From God.
So as you now run
In the meadows above,
Never doubt that we miss you,
Never doubt that we loved.
Although we can’t 
See you, or 
Feel your smooth coat,
Please know that 
Each tear we shed now, 
is a note, that when played
in Heaven, to a dog’s ears,
brings a message of love,
and no sign of tears.
