Chelsea's Tales Book Review
by Lea Kachler-Leake
Mike Jones, co-founder of Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc., with the help of his golden girl Chelsea, has written this lovely book that every golden lover and every supporter of rescue will want to read. Written from Chelsea's viewpoint, this gentle-spirited book chronicles some memorable rescue experiences Mike, Jody and Chelsea Jones had in their early years of rescue. It is heartwarming, occasionally amusing, emotionally wrenching, and ultimately hopeful, as it tells the stories of some horribly neglected and abused goldens who were blessed to find their way into the loving arms of this committed couple. This book is a metaphor for life. It points out the worst in human cruelty and the best in the human spirit.

If you are a dog lover, when you read the stories of goldens such as Elliott, Leo, Chelsea, Bentley and the gentle-spirited Sarah, you will be moved to tears. You will be outraged at the levels of cruelty and neglect perpetrated upon these animals by some despicable humans. And you will be uplifted and inspired by the hope, the capacity to forgive, and joy ultimately found by these tortured souls. Each of them has left a mark on so many hearts. Each of them has lessons to teach. Chelsea and Mike have done a remarkable job in telling their stories.

The book tells of the birth of Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue. It is a tribute to all who do rescue, but more importantly, it is a tribute to the resiliency and generosity of the canine heart. A must-read for dog lover, this book is informative, educational, and inspirational. If you have ever wondered, "What can I do? I'm just one person," read this book and you will have your answer. It is about hope, forgiveness, determination, and love. It comes from the heart and it is absolutely worth reading.
