Have you ever noticed how watching a golden retriever prance, wag, smile, sit, stand, lay, or play makes you feel good all over? Imagine watching 100 or so all at once – it’s a sight to behold! It does wonders for your disposition, your mood, and your soul.

This year’s annual Homeward Bound Reunion Picnic provided great entertainment and joy to all those that attended. If you didn’t attend, make a point of being there in September of 2006. 

All of Homeward Bound's supporters are invited, and every family who has ever adopted or fostered a Homeward Bound dog is invited to attend and bring their dogs. Seeing so many of our rescue dogs together with their adoptive families was very rewarding, and the entire day was a heartwarming reminder of what rescue is all about.

The best part of the picnic was, of course, being with all those Golden Retrievers. Each one has a story and each is amazing in his or her own way. It was great fun having Jody call up all the Goldens by adoptive year, starting with 2005 and ending with 2000, and getting group photos by adoptive year.

In addition to all those Goldens, there was a fabulous raffle with 80 – 90 different items to bid on. There was also a Baked Goods table that had scrumptious desserts for humans and dogs alike. Lemon Cake, Pumpkin & Poppy Seed Breads, Cookies, Rice Krispy Treats, Muffins, and even Krispy Kreme Donuts for humans – and fabulous assorted homemade doggie treats for our beloved canines.

This year’s lunch was a real treat! Sarge’s Dawgs provided incredibly delicious hot dogs and bratwurst. Sarge himself was on hand in his wiener hat, and he had his framed photo of his Golden, Waldo, on display.

All in all, it was another perfect reunion picnic. Thanks to all the volunteers that pulled it together – another great event!
