Double The Gold 2008

DOUBLE YOUR GOLD IN 2008

Let's Make 2008 Sparkle!

A matching “fund of love” has been established on behalf of Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue that will double your donations during the months of April and May 2008. Led by the Healy Foundation of Southern California, a group of foundations, businesses, and individuals have generously offered to match your donations to Homeward Bound. The matching fund currently stands at almost $40,000 and is still growing!

The challenge this year will be to make sure that the $40,000 becomes $80,000 so that the Goldens in Homeward Bound's care will continue to receive the medical care they need, and that they go on to lead happy pain-free lives.

BradleyOne hundred percent of the proceeds from Double-The-Gold will be used to pay for medical treatments and surgical procedures which will save golden lives and give them the best possible futures.

One such life is that of Bradley. This handsome, happy-go-lucky 10 yr-old golden fellow was struck in the hindquarters by a car and taken by a Good Samaritan to an emergency vetclinic in Sacramento. Bradley's injuries required surgery. The hospital did not have the space to keep him long-term, and there was no one to assume responsibility for him. Because they knew of Homeward Bound's absolute commitment to the goldens, the clinic staff called Homeward Bound to ask if we could help. Of course, the response was, "We'll take him."

When Bradley was struck by the car, the nerves in his lower spine were severed, rendering his tail useless and destroying his ability to control his bowels. After surgery to remove the tail and repair the wounds to his rear legs, Bradley is recovering nicely. He is happy, playful, and thoroughly charming. Because of his inability to eliminate normally, he will most likely enjoy spending the rest of his days at the Homeward Bound Sanctuary. He runs, plays, loves the company of his human and canine friends, and finds joy in each day. For Bradley, life is full of fun and love and security. Your donation dollars have helped to make his future bright.

Bradley is just one example of Homeward Bound's commitment to every dog that comes into our care. We are "doggedly" determined to offer each one the best possible medical care and provide everything these deserving creatures need in order to find their happy-ever-afters.

BradleyWhile most of the dogs we take in do not require extraordinary medical care, many, like Bradley, do. Your participation in the 2008 Double the Gold Challenge will ensure that each dog receives the most appropriate care. As the number of dogs we rescue each year increases, so does our need for funds to care for them. Along with hundreds of routine spays, neuters, and heartworm treatments, we also provide surgeries such as hip replacements, bone reconstructions, and many other complex orthopedic surgeries, ear surgeries and eye surgeries. Each one gives a deserving dog a second chance at a happy life.

We have the opportunity to make the 2008 Double the Gold Challenge the most successful ever.Every year Homeward Bound has been honored to provide happy endings for 350-560 dogs. With you as our partners in this noble effort, we will continue this good work for many years to come. Won't you please donate today?
