I'm Sonoma and I guess, the elder statesmen around here…..somewhere around 15 years old. I have been living with my son Shadow but he recently passed on and now I'm just a lonely ole coot looking for a place to spend the rest of my Golden years. I have excellent house manners and love being with people of all ages. Shadow used to pick fights with the other dogs and I would have to jump in and cover his butt! Now that he's gone I have been going around apologizing to all the other dogs and even going for evening walks with some of them. I would still rather be an only dog because, I would like it to be "all about me" for a the rest of my life. I still love to swim and yes, my bags are still packed!

Update:
I have moved to a foster home and am having so much fun! I get to go for rides in the car and there is even a cat here for me to study.......strange creature!

They call me Teddy but I am really more of a Theodore. Teddy sounds immature and playful, neither of which I am. I guess you could call me boring and that would explain why I ended up in a shelter with no one looking for me......they probably don't even realize that I'm gone! I am an 11 year old gentleman looking for a suitable place to spend my golden years. I love to go for long walks, rides in the car or just spending quality time with my favorite people. I like other dogs although I don't go for all that slobbering and roughhousing; I do have my dignity and prefer to be thought of as a refined gentleman.

I was here a long time ago and now I find myself in need of Homeward Bound's services again. I am 11 years old now and still a very good looking boy. I am a housedog and love to be with my people, I like to swim and go for car rides. I am good with other dogs and even cats. You're probably saying "why would someone so great be needing a new home?" Well, I do have one minor flaw.....I don't care for children. I am protective of my people and there is something about children that just scares me. My last family says that I am a wonderful guy but it's time to have some of those children and they don't think I would be very happy about it.

Boy did I have the life all the guys dream about. All my adult years I have only had one job to do…keep the ladies happy and make puppies! I am ten years old now and I guess all good things have to come to an end. But hey, I still got some good years and am willing to learn some new job skills like being a house dog, riding in that stupid car everybody makes such a fuss about and "just being friends" with the lady dogs. Yeah, it'll be fun; other guys seem happy doing it. I am in a great foster home and have learned so many new things but I still get scared about things that I haven't seen or heard before. I would be happiest in an adult home were there was lots of attention for me. Right now I'm stay home during the day with the other dogs and I am fine, because if I get lonely I can go next door and hang out with the neighbors. I like to be petted, I like going for walks and I really love mealtime! I had planned on spending the rest of my life taking care of Anela, but she decided that we both need so much attention it would be better for us to find separate homes…..I'll miss her but think she's right we both have a lot of catching up to do with the real world.

I'm just your average happy-go-lucky 10 year old boy. There may be snow on this ole roof, but there is still fire in the furnace! Funny thing is I always thought as I grew older, I would just grey around the temples….nobody ever told me my whole face would go white! People say things like "oh, look at that sweet old dog", yeah just the thing a guy wants to hear! I can still play ball with the best of them and love nothing more than hanging out with my pals talking about the good ole days.

I am about 10 years old now and have spent most of my life being the barn dog. I like kids, swimming, riding in the cars and hanging out with farm animals. What I don't like is other dogs or cats……I know that sounds funny, me being a barn dog, but it was my job to keep the other critters away from my livestock and I just learned to be protective of what was mine. Now, in my golden years, the farms been sold and I am without a job. I am looking for a retirement home where I can just hang out and let someone else guard the cows!

Update:
I am hanging out in a foster home and having a great time. I am living with an other dog but my foster family feels I would be happier as an only dog. They also said that I am good in the house and love being with people.

I am a very pretty girl and have always been able to get by on my good looks, but now my family wants a dog who gets along with other dogs and that just isn't who I am. I know how basic commands and am a very enjoyable companion as long as there are no other dogs involved.

I would best be described as a "country gentleman"; I am 10 years old but by no means over the hill. I prefer the refined life of lords and ladies with maybe a fox hunt thrown in. I see myself with a plaid wool scarf, casually wrapped around my neck, resting by the fire. Or maybe a quiet walk through the countryside wearing a stylish mackintosh. Hey, dogs can dream too!

I am an 8 year old girl and all of my life I've been called "mommy", I never learned how to play, how to be companion or even how to life in a house. All of that changed when I came to Homeward Bound, I met up with one of my favorite men, Tony, and he really helped me get my bearings. We both went to a wonderful foster home and I am learning lots of new things. I know how to use a dog door and actually run around outside! I was trying to keep Tony with me, but it's time to let him go….I will always be a quiet girl and Tony needs a more of a life than I do. I am very content to occupy a small space and go out the dog door when I need to. I have been going to a doggie meeting once a week while my foster mom works to give me more of a social live and that's been nice. I am also learning to go for walks…..it's a scary world but I'm trying. Like Tony, I will be happiest in an adult home were I will feel safe and continue to expand my horizons.

I'm about 6 years old now, I was here once before but it didn't work out the way I hoped. It was a really great home but they wanted me to walk on a leash with a bunch of other dogs. I got myself into some trouble mouthing off to a few of the dogs so the people asked my family not to bring me to the dog walk area. I didn't hurt anyone, just voiced my opinion. I'm not saying those other dogs are a bunch of snobs but I didn't have any trouble getting along with the guys at Camp Bow Wow, us guys romped all over the place together. I have really great house manners so if you don't mind not having to go for walks and we can just play in our own yard I'm the one you have been looking for!

Update:
I have been staying in a foster home and have doing much better on my walks....I got a "B" on my last foster report! I do bark when I see another dog but it's only to say hi and then I'm on my way. I love to go for rides in the car and got a "A" on my house manners. I just had some surgery so look like a patchwork quilt on one side but just the same on the other side! My foster mom thinks I would be fine with another dog but not a cat. Most have something to do with that skunk I chased away...

They call me the Buzz and I am just about as perfect as a 4 year old boy can be! Well, ok I do need a refresher coarse in that obedience stuff, I took some classes and know how to do everything, I just forget sometimes and jump up on the people….all 100 lbs of me! I get along with everybody and haven't met a creature I didn't like. My family really loved me but didn't have enough time for me and they think I would be happier with more room to romp.

I am a 4 year old Teddy---Bear! I love to snuggle and cuddle up and just be a "teddy bear". A few of the other things that I love are: being brushed, going walks, and swimming! I like kids, other dogs and I also like cats. I am used to being in the house and I have even gone to doggie school! I know all the basic commands and have no bad habits. My family really loved me but felt so bad about not having enough time for me that they brought me here to find a family with more time to spend with me.......now that's really love!

They call me a blonde blockhead and it's supposed to be a good thing! What I think I am, is a 3 and a 1/2 year old boy who has to find a new home. I need to work on my leash skills and also adapt to living in house, not just hanging out in the backyard. I am not one of those dogs who can coexist with cats.....sorry, they're just not my thing. My favorite thing in the whole world is swimming and that's probably what led to my down fall. My family couldn't keep me out of the swimming pool and not everybody has the patience for a big, long haired, wet dog roaming about.

My name is Shea, I am a 3 year old girl looking for a very special home. They say that I am just as cute as a bug; I guess because I am smaller than most of the other girls around here. But I have one pretty big problem….I don’t like being left alone. I want to be a companion to someone and the only way I can do that is to be with them. I don't know why that doesn't make sense to everyone! I am fine with other dogs and just ignore the cats.....that's because some of them are the same size as me!

My foster mom says that I am 70 lbs. of pure love…..and energy! Well what else would you expect from an, almost perfect, fifteen month old boy. I like to play with other dogs but may not be suitable for cats and real small children…..something about my youthful exuberance. My foster mom is teaching me how to be a good housedog and all that other stuff that goes along with being "almost perfect". I love to go for car rides so please, promise me we can do that. I am very eager to please so will enjoy my continuing education.

I'm Suzie and am about a year old. I don't have very many social skills and have a lot to learn about the outside world. Right now I know that I really like other dogs and think cats are fine. I am good in my crate and am learning the ways of a housedog. I like people but am really afraid of little people so it would be best if I went to an adult only home or maybe big kids who would not try to scare me.

First off I don't like them young dogs getting in my face, I've spent a lot of time with dogs my own age and have no problems but those young ones just have no respect for their elders! I have long black hair and am what you might call "willowy" you know, tall and thin. I am considered quite spunky and plan on staying that way for some time!

Well I finally got to be on the available list! You see they have a rule here that all guys got to be neutered before they can be adopted. Some how in my 12 years of living that got over looked. I have had about a half a dozen appointments but there always seem to be some young dude who had a home to go to as soon as he was "fixed" so I gave up my appointment, after all I am all about a guy going home! I am now also officially "fixed" and ready to be home for the holidays. I am staying in a really great foster home and to pay them back for taking me in I am entertaining their seven month old puppy! I like other dogs and don't take up very much room.

Update:
Hi, I'm Oscar, though no one is quite sure how old I am, the vets say I'm around 12 years old, I don't believe them. I am full of energy, guess you might say I'm "young at heart" and I don't have any health problems either. I like to chase balls and run around the back yard and I most definitely LOVE the walks I get to go on. I have so much love to give, sometimes I even think I'm a lap dog. I'll curl up in bed with you if you let me, but if you don't want me to, I'll behave and stay in my own bed. I'm great with other dogs and kids. I'm just waiting for someone who wants the love I have to give. Oscar

I am an 11 year old boy looking for my forever home. They call me Coal for a really good reason….I'm black! I am a mix of Golden Retriever and Black Lab and think I have a lot of life left in these ole bones. I am very interactive, love to play and get along with other dogs. They haven't gotten around to introducing me to the "test cats" so will get back to you on that one. Boy, do those dudes earn their keep! I do have on small issue...the ole ears are starting to fail me so you may have to repeat things.

Update:
I am hanging out in a new foster home and life is good! My new foster family says that I a great friend and that I love doing all the people things, like riding in the car and going on picnics!

My name is Chance and that pretty much sums up what I'm looking for…….a second chance at that forever home. I am a boy somewhere around 10 years old and I am in need a of place to spend my golden years. I am a Golden Retriever\ Lab\something kind of guy, but my heart is pure gold! I am on the small size, about the size of a Beagle....Oh!...maybe that's the something else in me! I am really just your basic easy going, eager to please, get along with everybody type of guy, and did I tell you, I won't take up much room!

I forgot to tell you that I just love cats and would be happy to live with one. Also I am very good on the leash and really enjoy a leisurely walk...smelling the flowers!

My name is Sierra and I am an 8 year old girl with a sad story. First off, I am a Golden\Lab mix, heavy on the Lab side. I am a very sweet girl and I wish I could have stayed with my mom forever. We were in a very bad home situation and when it got too dangerous for me, mom took me here so I could be safe. I wish I could have found somewhere safe for her to go because now she is in danger and I can't do anything for her. She says she is ok and that wants me to find a new home where I never have to be afraid and will always be loved. I was having some problems with minor seizures, but now that I am taking medicine and not being hurt the seizures are under control. I guess I just have to accept that mom knows what she's doing and that there is someone else out there who I could take care of and be their special baby. I am really a very nice girl and I get along with other dogs too.

Update:
I am living in a foster home and having a wonderful time. The first night here I got to curl up with my new foster mom and watch a movie! My foster mom says that I have excellent house manners and that I a really great puppy sitter!

I am about 8 years old and a very pretty girl. I look a lot like a Flat Coat Retriever with long black hair. I have the same condition as Scooter, the four year old Golden boy. Nothing can be done for me either----we're just not fixable. I have good knees and great hips, it's just he ole spine that's not right. I get around ok but I can't run and jump. I am good with other dogs and am also looking for a quiet place to hang my leash.

I am a really large imitation Golden Retriever. Right now I have a short hair cut but when it grows back I will look more Golden. I am 4 years old and very much a boy. It's been said that I have an attitude problem but that was before the people here took time to figure me out. I love to be held and petted sometime I even try to sit on the peoples laps which makes everybody laugh. the reason I am here is that I got overly protective of my Mom and would let anybody else be with her. Now that I have learned to like a bunch of people I am much better. I think I will always have a strong protective nature but with training that could be a really good thing.

I am 4 years old now and a complete failure. I was sent off to help a disabled women in a wheelchair. I was a trusted companion, I learned how to pick things up off the floor, walk slowly on a leash, sit and shake hands. I acquired excellent house manners and I was even able to entertain my people by "singing" for my dinner. Then I just blew it.....I became so attached to my person that I wouldn't anybody near her and thought every one was trying to hurt her. Stupid me! I had the best life ever and I just couldn't stand down and not try to be the hero. I've learned my lesson and my special person thinks I will do great with someone able to defend themselves......I may even let someone protect me!

When I first came to Homeward Bound they named me Tommy……they couldn't understand why I wouldn't answer to it until they read my paperwork and found out my name was really Brady! I am about 6 years old and have never met a dog or cat that I didn't like. As for kids, I just love them and hope to find a family with lots of them! I am a very mellow, gentle soul so would be good with even the smallest child. I have very good house manners and am doing really good walking on the leash. Oh, and I do answer to my name-----now!

I am a 3 years old girl…..they thought I was Golden Retriever\Black Lab but because of my size (about 35lbs) it is looking more like Border Collie is mixed up in my doggie DNA. I am very sweet and have an abundance of energy (another clue). I love kids but am not fond of my own kind and as for cats...no way! I have some people friends here and they play with me which is really what I'm all about. I love to run, jump and, with practice, I think I can even fly! My best buddy says that I am a beautiful black butterfly! My motto could be "float like a butterfly"...... opps, I think somebody else already used that one!

They forgot I was here! I can't believe it, I play with the other dogs, I sleep with the other dogs, they feed me everyday but somehow I never got to tell my story and be an "available dog"! First off, I am a 3 year old girl with long black hair. I am one of those Golden Retriever\Black Lab mixes that people really like, that is if they knew I was here! I have lots of energy and might even enjoy having a jogging partner. Like I said, I like to play with the other dogs, think kids might be fun and would really like to meet some people!

We all decided that I play too rough to be placed with little kids, but older kids who like to bounce...now that could be fun!

Finally got around to taking that "cat test"....I failed miserably! Don't worry about the cat, he's fine, really earned those big bucks they pay him this time!

Hi! I came here with my dad last year and he was adopted right away, I was also adopted but it didn't work out so I'm back here looking to get it right this time. I am a 3 year old boy; dad is a Golden and mom is a beautiful yellow Lab……makes me a short haired Golden\Yellow Retriever! I need an adult or older children home where I can be the baby. I got used to the role of baby and having everyone look after me and I can't seem to shake it. I get along with other dogs and would like to also find a home where I could continue my education.

I was adopted earlier this year but it didn't work out, not quite sure why all I heard was "Houston, we have a problem" and back I came. Ok, there was that time we were walking and another dog insulted me and I growled at him. I am just 2 years old so could use some more school time. I don't think I am a bad dog cause last time I was here another dog bite my butt and I just cried and didn't fight back, maybe I am afraid someone will bite me again so if I could just be around nice dogs or maybe cats; I heard that they don't bite and I kind of like them.

I am Keeley's sister, also 18 months old and just as good looking! I like to play ball and enjoy playing with my brother. As much fun as we have together it would be better if we each went our separate ways. We just get into too much trouble when we are together. The people say that we act much more mature when we are by ourselves. I guess it would be perfect if each of us went to a family with an older, well behaved dog (to show us how) or a family with a lot of time to spend showing us how to be the best we can be.

I am a 6 month old girl, a blonde Golden Lab mix. I need a running partner and some education. They call me rambunctious but I'm a just a baby with a whole bunch of energy. I have learned what sit means and I try to do the things I'm told but my last family still wouldn't let me in the house. I hate sitting outside looking in the window when I should be in there with the rest of the family. I am still to bouncy for young children but maybe I could have another dog to play with.

Wow…it is starting to look a liter of 6 month old girls around here! Yup, I am another one, I have gold hair and am very much a baby. My real littermate was just adopted and I am so lonely. I am not happy about being put in the crate by myself, it is cold and lonely in there without my brother. Last night I think my foster mom was ready to crawl in with me just to keep me quiet.....one more night and I think she will give up on that crate idea!

I am a 3 month old baby boy. The things I like are; plenty of food to eat, a warm bed to sleep in, someone to snuggle up with, dogs to play with and naps in the shade. So far the only thing I don't like is being by myself, I am much happier being around people. I have learned to sleep in a crate during the night, they tell me that is so everybody gets to sleep all night! I am doing really good on that housebreaking thing so the people say I am ready to start meeting families.

Rescue Buddy Fool's Gold

The goal of Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue is to rescue Golden Retrievers. The exception is Golden/Lab mixes and Flatcoats in need. Occasionally dogs not meeting this criteria find their way in, and rather than toss them back out, we have we have decided to give them their own page to tell their stories. Each dog has a "Rescue Buddy" to promote them and act as a contact for that dog.
